Word of the Year: 2019

Word of the Year: 2019

Well, it's officially January, y'all. A brand new year. A time for resolutions.

Honestly, I have a love-hate relationships with resolutions. I would start the year with some insane goal (likely having to do with losing weight, because DUH). And I might actually do pretty well with keeping up with it. But by March or April, you'd have to pay me to get my booty off the couch and to the gym.

So last year, instead of making a resolution, I chose a word of the year 2018. Intentional. I wanted to strive to be more intentional with my time, my relationships, my mental health, and my physical health.

This year, nothing felt right. Or at least, no word felt right. When I started reflecting on 2018 and thinking about what word I wanted to focus on this year, I thought up a few good options. They all had a piece of what I wanted this year to bring and what I wanted to bring into my life, but none of them stuck out as bringing a rounded view of my focus.

And then, I realized. I don't want to change my focus in 2019, but rather continue my focus of growing my business and keeping those things that are important to me on the front burner.

Which is why my word of the year is... PERSIST.

It's unrealistic to expect the coming year to come easily, with no adversity. I've had to constantly struggle with my mental health and my physical health, especially last year. And that just doesn't go away with the countdown to the New Year.

So 2019 isn't a new beginning for me. It's a continuation of what I started in 2018 with the intention of finishing it.

I'm a firm believer in the phrase "It's okay to not be okay." So I don't expect to "persist" by immediately picking myself back up when something goes wrong. I'm only human. But my goal this year is to show myself some grace through the ups and downs of my journey and know that...

nevertheless, I will persist

So here's to a new year of success and failure and getting to know myself a little bit better. Cheer to 2019!
